My friend is having her birthday party and I can’t wait to go. However, she’s invited someone that I absolutely can’t stand. Being in the same room as him makes me sick but he has responded that he is going to the party. Is it rude for me to ask her to uninvite him? I want to celebrate with her but I don’t want to see him.
Dear Birthday Invitee,
That’s great, have you picked out your outfit for the party? Animal prints are back in season. Child, I’ve got to hand it to you: big up yourself for not already throwing a fit when your mate invited this person. It probably feels like a real punch in the gut to have someone you don’t want around at this party you’ve been anticipating. What is it about this person that makes you want to hurl? Have you told your friend about how this person makes you feel? Sometimes all it takes is effective communication. Your friend might have invited this someone out of courtesy. For all you know, your friend might not even want this someone to be at the party. But of course your friend might have invited this someone consensually; in that case I would shy away from telling your friend to ban someone from her party. It is her party after all. We can’t change the way other people behave, but we can change the way we react. So don’t let that one person ruin your night. Strap on those heels, fix your highlight and have that fab evening with your friend that you’ve been waiting for!
